According to the notice of China Railway, the official name of the intercity railway under construction in South Jiangsu is Yangtze River Shanghai-Nanjing High-speed Railway.

The high-speed railway is an important component of the railway network in Yangtze River Delta. With a designed speed of 350 km/h, the 278.53 km-long line, which kicked off construction in October, 2018, will have eight stations, namely Nanjing South Station, Jurong Station, Jintan Station, Wujin Station, Jiangyin Station, Zhangjiagang Station, Changshu Station, and Taicang Station.

Currently, Zhangjiagang Station is carrying out the construction of spaces under the station, the improvement of greens, and the upgrade of environment, which are scheduled to be completed by the end of this May. After the opening of the railway, it will only take 45 minutes to travel to Shanghai and 60 minutes to reach Nanjing.

Yangtze River Shanghai-Nanjing High-speed Railway will pass Shaxi Town, Huangjing Town, Fuqiao Town, Liuhe Town and High-tech Zone of Taicang and then connect with Shanghai-Suzhou-Nantong Railway. When in operation, the high-speed railway will further shorten the distance between Suzhou and other areas in the province and Shanghai.
